Many DEM formats via Geog Heightfield Load. This page lists the image formats Terragen can open. This describes how Terragen can import animation data from. This describes Terragen's import/export capabilities for FBX files. Terragen has already been used in this fashion in a number of complex and high profile projects and integrated into studio pipelines. You can then use Terragen to render the landscape/environment, for example, and composite elements rendered in other applications with output from Terragen. Generally speaking the idea is that you can export enough from Terragen that you can set up scenes and animation in another application and then import relevant parts, such as camera motion, back into Terragen. and have them work in other applications. For example it would not be possible to export Terragen shaders etc. You can't export an entire Terragen scene and have it open intact in another application. Terragen can read and write many image formats at various bit depths. It can load georeferencing data from GeoTIFFs. Terragen supports importing and exporting heightfields in a number of heightfield/ DEM formats, including many image formats. You can export terrain geometry to FBX, OBJ, LWO2 and TGO formats.Īnimation data can be imported from. A Micro exporter can be connected to a Render node and it then exports all rendered terrain geometry. You can export terrain geometry using a Micro Exporter node. You can also export objects to the native TGO object format, as well as open them of course. It can import and export Wavefront OBJ and Lightwave LWO2 formats. Terragen can import and export several object formats. ASE Autodesk Scene Export OBJ Alias Object Mesh STL StereoLitho ASCII STL StereoLitho Binary T3D Epic 3D Terrain TXT ASCII XYZ Mesh. Please see the FBX Reference for more information about FBX import/export. Maximum Heightmap Size: 65536 × 65536 (Future BigArray 2 Billion × 2 Billion). It can also export terrain geometry via the Micro Exporter. Currently Terragen can import and export cameras, lights and markers, including animation. I can see Terragen 4 being used in a compositing application where the models/characters have been created in another application and the sky/landscape.

The free version allows for the export of landscape as an obj file and a heightmap for use in other applications.

Terragen can import and export FBX files. Terragen 4 Professional lets you export/import fbx of camera, lights, and nulls. For more information please refer to the Import and Export sections below. This introduction gives a quick overview of what can be imported and exported from Terragen. Note: I''m posting this both in the visual arts and game programming forums, since both might have people who know. This reference describes Terragen's import and export capabilities. Help! Does anyone know the specific tools, and the techniques that go with them, that I can use to generate a heightmap, a lightmap and a terrain texture bitmap?

I''m always blocked by a program not handling a specific format, or not exporting a particular aspect of a terrain. It seems that I can get close, but not all the way there. When I hit the "e" icon for the object I get smoothing options, not the usual heightmap/export controls. I can export the heightmap to Lightwave Object (.lwo) format, which Bryce will read, and Bryce will generate a nice looking texture for it, but Bryce won''t let me export it. Terragen - beautiful program, but it doesn''t export much. br3 format, but when I import that into Bryce (to generate a texture bitmap), it is just flat. Wilbur - It generates a heightmap and lightmap, but no bitmap. My question is - which tool or tools can do this? I''ve tried:īryce - I can get a so-so heightmap and bitmap, but I can''t get a lightmap. Once you are ready with youre heightmap: click on export then select Raw 16 bits Intel Byte-Order then select and save your file You will have some information in that dialog make sure your heightmap is 513 by 513.

I want to do this by having:ġ) a heightmap, preferably in RAW format but I''ll settle for anything that works, from which I can build a quad tree, vertex buffers, etc.Ģ) a bitmap texture to stretch over the terrain - grass, rock, etc.ģ) a lightmap to combine with the bitmap so I don''t have to use real-time lighting Go back to landscape dialog and edit your terrain with view/sculpt if you want to add some final touchs. I need to render a fairly large terrain interactively.
